This project aims to set up a cybersecurity lab using VirtualBox as our virtual host and Kali Linux as our Virtual Machine.

There’s only so much cybersecurity you can learn from reading. At some point, you have to install the tools, configure systems, break things, and fix them.
So I decided to build my own cybersecurity home lab (not for the first time, though…)
The goal was simple:
Set up a safe, isolated environment where I can practice, experiment, and improve my hands-on skills without touching real production systems.
For this project, I used:
- VirtualBox as my virtual host
- Kali Linux as my virtual machine
In this post, I’ll walk you through exactly how I set it up, step by step, with screenshots so you can build yours too.
This is probably the foundation of something bigger.
Downloading and Installing VirtualBox
The first step was to download VirtualBox from the official VirtualBox site
