Spoiler alert: I ended passing. But it wasn’t an easy challenge — I’ll admit that. Still, I believe people learn more from failures than successes, even if that sounds like a cliché. So allow me to share my own experience with you. Listen to my advice, or at least take it into consideration. Pride won’t get us too far. Like the old saying goes, the cemetery is full of brave people. You don’t have to “die” during the OSCP battle.

I’ve been studying for the OSCP (on and off) since 2018. Back then, the exam wasn’t proctored. HTB had just launched, and the OffSec Discord didn’t exist. If we needed help, we had to use the forum — and the hints there were sometimes even more confusing than the original questions.

Fast forward to 2023: with a different state of mind and several HTB and VHL boxes under my belt, I enrolled in OffSec LearnOne. This was an option that didn’t exist back then either, but a year of lab access seemed like a fair proposition. In the end, I studied full throttle for about a year — maybe more.

But let’s get to the point. Here are five things I did that you should not repeat (or at least try to avoid).

Mistake #1 — Rely on PEN200 only
