ChatGPT is getting two big changes. First, the Projects feature is now free. Second, you can now create new conversations from existing conversations.

Projects have been around for months now, but they're now rolling out to everyone, including those with a free plan.

With Projects, you can create "workspaces" with ChatGPT and organise chats, files and custom instructions for a specific project.

Right now, when you interact with ChatGPT, it tries to remember everything, which isn't really great when you want it to specifically remember everything in a particular conversation when you're interacting with GPT in other conversations.

OpenAI says Projects have independent memory, context, and flexible tools, and "they're ideal for repeated and evolving work such as writing, research, planning, and more."

Branch in new chat rolls out to GPT

OpenAI is adding a new "Branch in new chat" option, which allows you to create a new chat and pick up from where you split the previous chat.

When you select Branch in new chat, GPT creates a new conversation. But it's not a fresh chat. Instead, it includes everything up to the message where you selected "branch in new chat."

The idea is to have multiple dedicated conversations on different topics when the primary topic has other important subjects to discuss.

This feature is useful for brainstorming, and it could work well when it's used with Projects.
