If you’re running cloud-native apps and services, you probably already know that KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2023 is next week, November 6-9 in Chicago! Fairwinds is sponsoring KubeCon once again, contributing our efforts to the flagship conference of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. At KubeCon, you can learn a lot — and connect with the folks behind popular projects, such as Kubernetes and Fairwinds’ own open source projects (among many others).
All the keynotes and sessions will be recorded, so you don’t have to miss out on a thing, but make sure you plan your schedule in advance so you can participate in the sessions that speak to you the most. The session recordings will be available on the CNCF YouTube channel (according to the KubeCon website, within two weeks after the live event).
This year, KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America is at the McCormick Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois. On Monday, attendees can join CNCF-hosted co-located events. These are accessible with an all-access pass, and offer sessions for app developers, observability practitioners, and many more, so build your schedule to match your interests. These events can help you get access to content and subject matter experts in many areas. Take advantage of the Sched app on your phone or the KubeCon website to plan your days. Whether you’re interested in the software development lifecycle, security, platform engineering, or observability, you’ll find at least one event you want to attend.
The Expo Hall will be open from Tuesday through Thursday. Come by Booth G11 to talk to our Kubernetes experts to learn about our open source projects, built based on our years of experience in Kubernetes, and Fairwinds Insights, our software for platform teams running Kubernetes to enable development. Plus, we’ll have hot, fresh popcorn to hand out at the booth on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons!
Fairwinds believes strongly in the open source community, and we not only contribute open source projects to the cloud native community, we also contribute our time and expertise to different groups. I’m excited to share that I am a CNCF Ambassador, furthering their mission of making cloud native ubiquitous.
Join Jim Bugwadia, co-founder and CEO at Nirmata; Anca Sailer, Distinguished Engineer at IBM; Robert Ficcaglia, CTO, at SunStone Secure; Poonam Lamba, Product Manager at Google; and Andy Suderman, CTO at Fairwinds, to talk about policy-based Kubernetes governance, risk, and compliance (GRC). They will talk through Kubernetes policies and how you can use them to manage other configurations and runtime behaviors. These members of the CNCF Policy Working Group will discuss why Kubernetes requires policy management, how policy management works at each phase of the cloud native lifecycle, and a policy-as-code based approach for addressing critical business functions of GRC. You’ll also learn about this working group’s charter, activities, and how to contribute to making Kubernetes secure and compliant.
Tuesday, November 7: 2:30pm – 3:05pm
Join me and Simon Forster to learn about the Cartografos Working Group and the updates to the Cloud Native Maturity Model. We’ll walk through the five stages of cloud native maturity and discuss the new inclusion of resources across the CNCF. This session offers information that is valuable to non-technical and technical contributors as well as strategic decision makers. Plus, learn how individuals and technical advisory groups (TAGs) can contribute to this non-code CNCF resource.
Wednesday, November 8: 4:30pm – 5:05pm
We know there’s a lot to do in Chicago at KubeCon, so we hope a visit to the Fairwinds booth fits into your schedule. In addition to getting free, hot popcorn, we’d love to hear about your challenges and how you’re solving them. We’ve supported a lot of organizations adopting Kubernetes over the years, and we may have suggestions to help you ship your apps faster while still making sure they are secure, cost-efficient, and reliable.
If you won’t make it to KubeCon or your schedule is too packed to come by the booth, here are a few resources that might help. Learn more about:
KubeCon is a great opportunity to learn about the latest trends and technologies in Kubernetes as well as network with other professionals in the cloud native space. Be sure to visit Fairwinds at KubeCon to learn more about how platform teams are using Fairwinds Insights to implement standards and enforce development best practices for developers to self-service. Using Insights, platform teams can enable development teams to increase velocity and accelerate revenue generating activities.
